SBHA are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Apprentice Plumber. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the plumbing trade while working towards an industry-recognised qualification.
Salary: In line with the Real Living Wage (currently £12.60 per hour, with increase pending)
Location: Selkirk, Scottish Borders
Contract: Fixed term for 4 years of apprenticeship, with the prospect of a permanent position upon completion
Hours: Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week
Closing date: Tuesday 28 April 2025
The Role:
You’ll work alongside experienced plumbers and other trades on a wide range of projects while attending college to complete your apprenticeship framework. Over four years, you’ll develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to become a qualified plumber.
At the end of the apprenticeship, there are good prospects to move into a permanent position within the organisation.
The successful applicant will start in post July/August 2025 and will be paid in accordance with the Real Living Wage.
Summary of Tasks and Responsibilities
Attend college as required as part of the apprenticeship programme
Assist in carrying out plumbing repairs and maintenance work across SBHA properties
Complete works safely, efficiently and to a high quality standard
Accurately record work completed, materials used and time spent on works orders
Work alongside experienced trades staff and other building trades on site
Maintain tools, equipment, materials and vehicle stock responsibly
Follow all health and safety procedures at all times
Demonstrate a positive and professional approach when working in tenants’ homes
Attend regular reviews to monitor progress throughout the apprenticeship

What we're looking for:
Essential
A good standard of education, including English and Maths at National 5 level (or equivalent)
An understanding of what is expected of an apprentice in the construction industry
A positive, adaptable and motivated attitude towards learning and development
Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team
Good communication skills, both verbal and written
Willingness to comply with health and safety requirements
Must pass the SNIPEF aptitude test
Full UK driving licence by the end of the apprenticeship
Desirable
Previous construction‑related work experience
Ability to read and understand drawings or technical information
Some background knowledge or interest in plumbing as a trade
